Safe & Secure
When we were creating our Intergenerational Center we wanted a security system. We wanted a way to be sure that the people in our Adult Day Care Center were safe especially since we knew some of our clients had dementia. We applied for a grant but we didn’t get it. At that point, we thought perhaps we could make everything work with locks and keys. But one Tuesday afternoon after several meetings with the lock and key people, I was told that I did not understand. We could keep everyone safe or we could get people out if there was a fire, but not both. I told them the meeting was over and asked them to come back Friday morning. The following morning, I explained the problem and asked my staff to pray. The next morning a man came to visit. We gave him a tour of our facility and at the end of the tour he asked, ‘what do you need?’ I told him we desperately needed a security system. He asked to see our bids and after looking at them, he said, “I can do that”. He paid for our badge access system, a fire alarm system, the burglar alarm system, and a video camera surveillance equipment. When the lock and key people came back the following morning, we were able to ensure the safety of our clients. We are able to protect them and we can see what is happening in any part of the center.
