My Dog Died

“My dog died.”  That was the first thing he said when he called and I told him how sorry I was.  “Can you get me a new dog?”  He was elderly and he lived alone.  His dog had been his best friend – his only friend.  “We’ve never had anyone ask us for a dog before.  Let me see if we can give you a dog.”

We called the local animal shelter and found they had a program for seniors.  They would provide the dog and the dog would have all its shots.  When we went to pick up the dog we learned they had a training video to teach the new owner how to care for the puppy.  I called the gentleman back.  “Do you have a VCR?”  “What’s that?”  “I don’t guess you have one.  It’s okay.  Nevermind.  The puppy will be at your house soon.”

He was so happy to get his new dog that he named him “Happy”.

We helped him get a VCR.  He got to watch his training video.  And, he started calling regularly to request movies.
