Our Gifts For Grannies and Grandpas Too donation drive went tremendously well!!! We are so thankful to all who donated gift items, volunteers who helped deliver gifts, and our lovely ladies who separated and bagged up each individual person’s Christmas present’s according to their request and need. A lot of time was spent organizing this event. Our mission is to bless as many people as we can, we don’t want to leave anyone out. Without the help and support of so many, this would not be possible. It is an honor and privilege to get to help those less fortunate. We are blessed to be a blessing to someone else. Thanks again!! We love and appreciate all of you so much!!!

First Woodway Christian School Donations

We are so blessed to have great friends like the First Woodway Christian School, students and teachers. They volunteer to play bingo with our clients at Friends For Life Adult Day Care every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Today they brought in donations to be given away as bingo prizes for our clients…we are so thankful!!! Merry Christmas and God Bless you all!!!

The Big Texas Christmas Present – December 10th

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, Friends for Life, Carter Bloodcare, and Big 95 have teamed up for the “Big Texas Christmas Present”
to benefit Gifts for Grannies and Grandpas too! We are collecting items for elderly and disabled people who have no one to remember them during the holiday season. Donations will be accepted at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum Saturday, December 10th, and anyone making a donation will receive free admission to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame – one admission per item. Mi Familia Car Club will have classic cars on display, there will be arts & crafts for kids, Carter Bloodcare will be accepting blood donations, and Big 95 will broadcast live from 1-3pm. Thanks for helping to make a difference!

Friends for Life helps honor Robert Griffin, III

Baylor University’s quarterback, Robert Griffin, III was surprised with an award today by Grant Teaff recognizing Robert for what he has done ‘off the field’ through volunteering with Friends for Life and the Special Olympics. We had a chance to thank him for volunteering in our Adult Day Care Center and taking time to spend with our clients to make them feel special. We are proud to know Robert, not only for what he is doing on the field, but for all he does ‘off the field’. For the past 20 years, college football players like Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Trent Dilfer and Heisman trophy winners Tim Tebow and Ricky Williams have been named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for demonstrating outstanding character and a strong commitment to their communities. We were proud to be there today when Robert was presented with his award.

HOT Fair

We had so much fun at the HOT fair!!! We took many of our clients to the Fair Tuesday and Wednesday. Although it rained on Wednesday, that did not stop us from having a great time. We enjoyed the Amazing Rainforest Experience, the Wild West Show, the H-E-Buddy Barnyard, Texas Farm Bureau’s “Planet Agriculture” and in the Extraco Show Pavilion, we watched a livestock show. Our clients are very grateful when they get to go on a field trip. We love putting smiles on their faces!!!

Thanks to our drivers and volunteers who were on hand to transport and push wheelchairs. We appreciate you so much!

A Place At The Table

Friends For Life participated in an event called A Place At The Table at Lake Shore Baptist Church. We were able to share stories of how Friends For Life impacts our community and region through our many departments of service such as: Adult Day Care, Guardianship, Money Management, Independent Living and Quality Of Life. We are happy to be working and serving together with our local Churches to help make a difference in the lives of the people we touch.

Maybe you can help too by being a volunteer in one of these areas of service. Applications can be filled out online by going to www.friendsforlife.org, or you can pick one up at our home office at 5000 Lakewood. If you need more information please call 254-772-7600.

Helping seniors at home

We always have something to deliver to our clients that live in the community. It might be a little food, or some personal supplies that are difficult to afford when money goes to electric bills and medicine. Today Sandy, our Client Services Coordinator, shared that there are two clients residing in a local nursing home that are always looking for crafts to do. We sent them a big bag of puzzles and needlework supplies to keep their spirits up. If you have some craft supplies to donate, we will put them to use in our Adult Day Center or for our clients in the community. And we are always looking for folks who can deliver a bag or two to a client. Call Sandy to find out how.

Happy Endings

We have a 27 year old client who was abandoned by his momma when he was very young. He has cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities and juvenile diabetes. Recently we moved him in with a family that has a foster care home for adults with disabilities. They are very caring and nurturing. He was so happy with his new home that he told his foster father he didn’t want to move any time soon. The foster father said, ‘don’t worry, we’ll grow old together’. Yesterday at his new Dayhab, he baked his first cake for St. Patrick’s Day. His large new extended family all love him and his foster mom is working with him every day on his speaking and healthy eating. He is looking forward to his first family vacation this summer. Praise God for caring, nurturing people to care for adults with disabilities and give them the family they never had.
