Friends for Life helps honor Robert Griffin, III

Baylor University’s quarterback, Robert Griffin, III was surprised with an award today by Grant Teaff recognizing Robert for what he has done ‘off the field’ through volunteering with Friends for Life and the Special Olympics. We had a chance to thank him for volunteering in our Adult Day Care Center and taking time to spend with our clients to make them feel special. We are proud to know Robert, not only for what he is doing on the field, but for all he does ‘off the field’. For the past 20 years, college football players like Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Trent Dilfer and Heisman trophy winners Tim Tebow and Ricky Williams have been named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for demonstrating outstanding character and a strong commitment to their communities. We were proud to be there today when Robert was presented with his award.

FRIENDS FOR THANKSGIVING

Friends for Life volunteers gathered early Thanksgiving morning to package dinners. Then volunteers delivered Thanksgiving Dinners to 332 homebound elderly and people with disabilities. We are so thankful for all the people who come together to help us remember these folks each year!

Peach Cobbler

She was 96 years old and determined to continue living in her own home and counting on us to help. A young Baylor student visited her and fell in love with her and in helping she was excited to discover she could repair a screen door.

This precious widow called us almost daily because she was legally blind and wanted us to read the Bible to her. One day she called and said, “I am so hungry for peach cobbler.” We took her some and she called later and said happily, “do I sound like I’m full of peach cobbler?”
